Target group

The concept of this master´s program is aimed at

  • Graduates who have already been working for some time and would like to maintain or improve their employability,
  • Bachelor's graduates who, after gaining initial professional experience, wish to pursue a Master's degree,
  • Graduates with family responsibilities,
  • career returnees.

This course is aimed at engineers and architects working in the construction industry who plan and renovate construction projects or operate and maintain buildings in an international context. Also those who want to expand their profession accordingly in order to increase their market value belong to the target group of this master´s program. New fields of work in an international environment are opened up to the above-mentioned target groups. Internationally active prospective students are also addressed via the Internet-based offerings.

Graduates will have specialized knowledge which are for example in the following areas highly in demand:

  • Construction planning and management
  • Consulting in the technical field
  • Building physics
  • Building construction
  • Sustainable, climate- and environment adaptive construction
  • Restructuring
  • Urban development
  • Environmental engineering
  • Preliminary planning and design

Context and challenges

Building physics is operating between the conflicting priorities of rapid progress in building technology, increasing user demands and rising functional requirements for buildings. The use of innovative building products, construction forms and building processes requires a high level of training in building physics from architects and engineers. In addition, there are the challenges of climate change, the trend toward globalization, and the promotion of a sustainably designed built environment. These developments require ideally part-time continuing education for architects and engineers working in the building sector.

In order to be able to meet the challenges of study, career and family at the same time, the program makes specific use of innovative techniques as well as teaching and learning methods for this purpose.

Aim

Because of its approach to damage prevention rather than damage remediation, MASTER:ONLINE Building Physics and Environmental Construction is fundamentally different from many other continuing education programs. In addition, it focuses on the possibilities for action in building physics in relation to various challenges such as climate change and globalization.

The aim is to successfully place a high-quality study program on the continuing education market that gives graduates an international competitive position.

Under the auspices of the Fraunhofer Academy, the Institute for Acoustics and Building Physics (IABP) at the University of Stuttgart offers this continuing education program in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP. The program also cooperates with professional associations and industry. The associated closeness to research and practice as well as the use of highly qualified lecturers guarantee both the quality and the topicality of the course content in the long term. Students thus come into contact with innovative and groundbreaking technologies even before they are launched on the market.
